A lesson in disguise

Sometimes it is so much better to travel by a public vehicle than your own car. Why???
Well...you get to experience life in its truest of forms. Everyday, I come across a lot of interesting stories and recently I experienced something worth sharing.

Of late, I was travelling by a bus when I came across a very old lady. I was sitting beside her. Her face was wrinkled, and it seemed that she was in her eighties. I was reading a book. On our way, she tried to talk to me by asking random questions like the time, the location and so on and so forth. I finally decided to stop reading and enjoy the ride.

When the lady saw that I was no longer reading, she started talking to me and asked me questions about my profession, whether I’m Punjabi or not and if I’m then I should wear a kada (bangle) to protect myself. She gave me some Prasad and some candies ;). Though I’m not a kid anymore but I loved them at that moment. Somehow, she reminded me of my grand mother.

While talking to her, I kept looking at her and saw my grandma’s reflection in her. When I arrived at my destination, I turned back to look at her for the last time and say goodbye. At the end of the ride, I was left with a feeling of guilt inside my heart...I asked myself that when was the last time I met my Nani (grand mother), when was the last time I spoke to her???

With tears in my eyes, I immediately called up my Nani. And you know what...she could not believe her ears that it was her grand daughter calling her. I could sense the happiness in her voice. I loved that feeling.

That very day I realised that our grand parents have always loved us unconditionally. They gave us everything we ever wanted, they taught us the lessons of life and it is on us to give them back twice the love they gave us. After all, they are the reason for our beautiful present.

The journey between me and the old lady ended but from then on, a new journey of relationships began.
